Social Media 101 for You and Your Small Business: Creations, Connections and Confections

Wed, Feb 8, 6:30 pm:

Creations and connections -- not to mention confections -- are Laura DeVries' specialty! This fall, Laura and her partner, Wade Stewart, opened Cupcakes-A-Go-Go Cafe in Madison, and credit much of their business success to harnessing the power of social media. Laura has spoken at Madison's Social Media Breakfast, Dane Buy Local, and other local business events and has been featured in Capital Region Business Journal and Brava Magazine for her social media and business acumen.

Laura's session will cover social media for personal use as well as for small business. She'll discuss Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube and more. Whether these names mean nothing or everything to you, there will be one-of-a-kind takeaways everyone can use. Privacy and identity safety tips will be shared as well. The social media for small business portion will delve deeper into Facebook advertising, contests, and how to use each of these platforms for maximum impact in minimum time. Questions? We've got answers -- and mini-cupcakes you won't want to miss! Register online here.

Our Featured Artist: Harry Whitehorse

Check out the glass display case by the elevator for the stunning art of Harry Whitehorse. Harry Whitehorse's career in art began at an early age as an apprentice to his uncle who was an accomplished silversmith, carver, and artist.

In the 1960's and 1970's, Harry produced a series of metal sculptures which gained him acclaim in the art world. Harry has carved hundreds of birds and animals from wood and developed a sculpting method using epoxies over an armature. These sculptures could be cast in bronze or finished with oil paints.

Harry Whitehorse continues to spend part of each day creating art. For him, the closeness to wildlife and his Ho-Chunk heritage are strongly reflected in the fine detail of his brush strokes, in his intricate carvings, and in the cold realism of his metal sculptures. Now through the end of February.
